SOUTHFIELD — Employees at DENSO International America, Inc. are digging into the Rouge Rescue Cleanup event on Saturday, June 1, from 8 a.m. – 1 p.m.
Why get dirty?
1. Logjams are a real drag. Ever see a sea of red shirts bust through a logjam barrier? Now’s your chance! DENSO’s Woody Debris team of more than 30 volunteers does a knock-out job of getting those logs out, helping to prevent flooding and damage to the surrounding natural areas and animals.
2. Garlic Mustard tastes good. Garlic Mustard may be an invasive bully that takes out our local plants, but we can eat it! Every year, DENSO volunteers pick more than 4,000 pounds of this pesky plant, helping to restore the natural habitat and add some kick to a dinner dish.
3. To comBAT pests. NEW this year, our volunteers and their families are getting creative, building and decorating bat, owl and bluebird houses to put around our Southfield, Mich., campus, with the help of Organization for Bat Conservation and Oakland Wildflower Farm. The benefit of bats and birds? – Less pesticide use, a protected environment and more music!
4. To green-up Southfield. We’re spreading the green by planting a native garden and building new homes for our wildlife neighbors.
Working with the Friends of the Rouge, the City of Southfield and Six Rivers Regional Land Conservancy, a team of more than 100 DENSO employees and their families will participate in the annual Rouge Rescue Cleanup.
Volunteers will meet at DIAM, located at 24777 Denso Drive, just south of Franklin Road off Telegraph in Southfield, Mich.
DENSO has supported Friends of the Rouge for 15 consecutive years, with financial contributions and participation in the Rouge Education Project and annual Rouge Rescue Cleanup events. DENSO, as a company, was born and raised in rural Japan – surrounded by local farmers whose livelihood was dependant on the land. Because of this upbringing, the idea of helping your neighbor and preserving the environment has long been engrained in DENSO’s 60-year history.
In Southfield, DENSO International America is the North American headquarters of DENSO Corporation, a leading automotive supplier of advanced technology, systems and components. In the Americas, DENSO employs more than 14,000 people with consolidated sales totaling US$6.8 billion for the fiscal year ending March 31, 2013.
Interviews are available with team volunteers and company vice presidents. Great photo and video opportunities. For on-site contacts during event, call JoAnna McCulloch at 248-219-9947.
